SENIOR WHISKY BLENDER - EDINBURGH

As part of LVMH / Moët Hennessy, The Glenmorangie Company crafts, distributes and markets two of Scotland’s most acclaimed single malt whiskies. Glenmorangie is famed as the leading Highland single malt, renowned for its smooth, complex, and accessible taste, its mastery of wood in cask maturation, and its industry leading whisky innovation. In this key role, you will support the Director of Distilling & Whisky Creation and the team in maintaining the quality and house style of our whiskies, from new-make spirit through to mature, bottled product. The role will also involve key elements of new-product development, participation in cask selection, the sensory approval process and will entail a substantial element of global brand ambassador work, presenting and promoting our products. This will be a crucial developmental role to support the talent succession within the Whisky Creation team. It will report directly to the Master Blender, who is responsible for the day-to-day blending and stock activities of the team.

 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Job Responsibilities:

  • Collation and analysis of all distillery spirit production and quality parameters.
  • Support Master Blender in development and maintenance of all core whisky products.
  • Active participation in all company organoleptic analysis, including wider company sensory panel.
  • Provide technical support for distillery production teams and ensure that agreed production quality parameters are adhered to.
  • Actively participate in cross-functional teams to develop new products, from ideation through to actual market launches.
  • Provide credible, engaging presence in market as a Brand Ambassador, working with our global Moët Hennessy distribution companies to assist in product launches, trade seminars, press interviews etc.
  • Become the departmental representative to oversee/ liaise with distillery trials, and in particular the operation of our experimental ‘Lighthouse’ distillery.
  • Support the department in the selection and management of our bulk whisky stocks.

 

PROFILE

Technical Skills Experience Required:

  • Educated to degree level in a relevant scientific discipline.
  • Detailed technical knowledge of the whisky production process.
  • Highly developed sensory/ organoleptic skills and an ability to describe & communicate key flavour congeners.
  • Extensive experience in a whisky production environment.

Key Competencies:

  • Confident communicator with well developed presentation skills.
  • Strong IT skills, with experience in DRAMS/ bulk stocks system.
  • Proven experience in cask selection/ stock management.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to work to key time deadlines.
