National Account Manager (Retail)

We import the best spirits from around the world and flog them to bars, clubs, restaurants, wholesalers, hotels and speakeasies. We have ambitious plans and have identified the retail sector as being an area we aim to grow ourselves in.

The Role

This is a National Account Manager position which will focus on making sales within the retail sector of the drinks industry. The position will work in a dynamic and commercial environment on a target and goal basis. The postholder must display the aptitude to identify and win profitable direct listing opportunities within the retail drinks sector of the UK market including: independent, e-commerce, prestige, national and brokers. This is an ambassadorial position and it is pivotal in building brands, driving volume and visibility, and instigating actions within the retail sector which are all sustainable and commercially rewarding for the business.

Given the geographic coverage and sparse dispersal of the account base the postholder must be able to develop the retail sector via video calls, phone conversations and e-mails with relevant stakeholders, rather than conducting face to face account visits on a regular basis. Therefore, exceptional communication and relationship management skills are essential as well as already holding an existing account base within the retail drinks division.

What You Will be Doing

Your responsibilities will include but are not limited to the following:

Delivering budgeted sales volume by securing incremental listings against an agreed customer target list
Gaining material listings in line with KPIs across our select portfolio of premium and luxury spirits
Understanding and delivering commercial agreements and plans with key customers across retail sector
Identifying future areas of growth
Establishing and profitably building relationships with decision makers and influencers in key outlets
Maintaining and continually developing thorough and up-to-date knowledge of the UK retail market and utilising this to drive volume and profit
Successfully executing the channel plan, including promotional activities and activations within trade
Keeping the company one step ahead of the competition by feeding back brand and market intelligence
Championing and articulating our brand portfolio USP’s to internal and external key customers
Carrying out effective teamworking responsibilities. This includes working with necessary BWC sales colleagues to develop and secure opportunities
Accurately and efficiently complete administration
Planning and effectively prioritising tasks to ensure maximum efficiency in account coverage and management

The Position Holder

The successful candidate will have the below:

Essential

Have a solid understanding of commercials and figures; including having the ability to prepare a listing proposal whilst embracing the necessary retail margins through to margin calculation and ROI
An understanding of the UK spirits market and current trends in the off trade retail sector
Demonstrate sales delivery within the drinks retail channel, with a clear desire to work with brands.
An outstanding communicator, with the conviction that carries through even when not face-to-face
A self-starter who thrives on being given their own space to develop effective business plans
Experience of having existing relationships with the target customers of this role and awareness of prospects to be explored
A flexible team player with the confidence to offer solutions at all times
Demonstrate an exceptional level of passion and knowledge for spirits, including production methods and raw materials involved in Agave, Rums & Whiskeys
Hold a UK driving licence
Must be willing to travel throughout the UK, including staying overnight

Desirable

Experience of working with retailers, brands as well as customers
Delivering brand training alongside some cocktail knowledge
Working Pattern

Monday to Friday 9am – 5.30pm. There will be some evening (and potentially weekend) work when you will have to visit certain customers, potential customers and / or attend events, some of which will be nationwide.
