Harvest Cellar Hand - East Sussex

Henners Vineyard is looking for cellar hands for the upcoming 2024 vintage.  Cellar hands will have the opportunity to experience all aspects of a winemaking harvest, from grape picking and press pad management through fermentation.

 

We produce traditional method sparkling wines and a growing range of still wines from our own grapes, and our partner growers across the South-East. Cellar hands will have the chance to work with sparkling, white, rose and red wine production, get involved in winemaking trials, barrel work and lab work. It’s a great opportunity to gain an all-round harvest experience within a small and passionate team.

 

Harvest is likely to begin mid-September through to the end of October.  One meal per shift provided and support with accommodation for those out of area. 

 

Harvest duties will include: 

·         Grape receival and processing, including press management

·         Harvesting Henners fruit

·         Racking/transfers

·         Enrichment, inoculation and other additions

·         Alcoholic and malolactic fermentation management

·         Sampling and lab analysis

·         Barrel handling

·         Harvest related cleaning – including maintenance of general winery standards

 

Requirements

·         Experience of at least one harvest in a winery preferred. Training given where necessary.

·         Clear English communication – written and verbal

·         Enthusiasm for, and ability to work with, others in a small team

·         Understanding that harvest will involve long hours and requires working weekends

·         Be fit and able to lift 25kg

·         Applicants must be eligible to work in the UK

·         Attention to detail and ability to follow written work orders

 

Highly desirable, though not essential:

·         Forklift license and experience

·         Lab experience
