Buckingham Schenk Family is one of the UK’s leading wine agencies, importing wine from most of the major wine-producing countries and selling to the major multiples, regional wholesalers, independent retailers, online, travel, and wine specialists.  The company was established in 1974, and is owned by the Schenk Family, a pan-European wine company with wineries and distribution companies across the continent.

The regional wholesaler business within Buckingham Schenk has developed significantly over the past few years and it is seen as a major part of our future with emphasis on a long-term business plan. We are now looking for another ambitious member to join this team..

THE ROLE

The National Account Manager will be responsible for wine sales and sales growth into our current on-trade regional wholesalers across the whole of England as well as a strong emphasis on gaining new accounts, and completing the network of wholesalers throughout the UK. We work with a wine list that is aimed specifically at the on-trade and independent wine merchant sector. You will be expected to gain a comprehensive understanding of all the wines, and the wineries, within this list.

As the Schenk group owns its own wineries within Europe, there is also some scope to offer wines outside of this list on an ex-cellar/FCA basis, which gives you greater flexibility.

HOW THE ROLE WILL DEVELOP

This is a very exciting opportunity and whilst significant progress has been made in recent years, the National Sales Manager will be a key driver in growing business in this part of the UK and contributing to the YOY growth that has been achieved in this sector of the business. Buckingham Schenk is a very inclusive business, and this person will also be a valuable decision maker on key elements of this sector such as new product development/new producers, pricing, tasting events etc.

WHAT SORT OF PERSON ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

Skillset: Good sales skills obviously, but essentially this is a role for someone who can build relationships quickly and consistently at all levels. A self-motivated, tenacious individual, who is a self-starter and also a good team- player with the ability to drive sales forward.

A proficient wine knowledge and a passion for wine is essential.

Ideal experience & background: We are ideally looking for someone who is keen to make a mark within a sales role and has strong interpersonal skills, confidence, and the drive to be out on the road building existing business and bringing in new business. An understanding of this area of business within the wine trade is important, as well as existing knowledge and relationships with some of the regional wholesaler account base.

Personality: Buckingham Schenk is a small team with a relatively informal environment.  The successful candidate will need to be able to fit into the team and will demonstrate the ability to thrive in a relaxed but demanding culture.  Good sense of humour is essential!

ADMINISTRATIVE DETAILS

25 days a year holiday, plus all bank holidays

Salary negotiable based on experience, plus bonus and car allowance.
