The Drinks Trust is a UK charity dedicated to supporting the drinks and hospitality workforce. It provides financial assistance, well-being services, and educational opportunities to those in the industry, offering a range of services, including emergency grants, training courses, well-being support, and practical advice. It relies primarily on donations and fundraising from businesses in the industry to fund its activities.
Purpose of the role:
We are looking for a commercial manager, ideally with drinks or hospitality industry experience, to maximise revenue generation from our business donor channel. Working as part of a high-performing team, this person will be accountable for new business strategy creation, pipeline development, cultivating and managing rewarding partnerships, and supporting team members across the wider spectrum of our charitable activities, to contribute effectively to an overall team fundraising goal that enables us to meet our charitable giving objectives.
Key areas of responsibility include:
- Be responsible for the creation of robust partnership plans and precise segmentation modelling as part of a strategy that incorporates the objectives of the charity and the needs of the partner organization.
- Cultivate a broader range of and deeper partnership relationships, focusing on prospect research, making proactive approaches, writing compelling proposals, and pitching.
- Proactively identify opportunities, i.e. new channels, products, and initiatives to generate incremental income
- Ensure partnership milestones and fundraising targets are monitored, met, reported on, and celebrated with key internal and external stakeholders. Where appropriate, highlight risks, mitigation plans, and future projections that can help the fundraising team budget confidently.
- Collaborate with your colleagues in marketing, fundraising, and the broader business to deliver excellent relationship management with all of the organisation’s corporate partners, focusing on building long-term, sustainable support and revenue.
- Participation in fundraising events organised by both the charity and partners, representing the charity where required.
Key skills required for this role:
- A demonstrable track record of delivering significant results against agreed targets and timescales.
- Ability to plan strategically whilst understanding and considering the bigger picture and implementing those plans.
- Proven ability to prioritise and manage a varied workload, taking initiative and working to deadlines.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with a range of audiences, especially with influential and senior people, both internal and external.
- Ability to direct client-facing meetings, get to the core of what motivates a partner to take action, and present a support case convincingly, keeping the charity’s best interest at heart
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to develop tailored, compelling pitches and presentations and follow up with an eye for detail.
